Let’s be real… most Chrome extensions for SEO fall into two categories: bloated dashboards you’ll never use… or single-feature tools that quietly save you hours.
I’ve tested everything.
From quick keyword tools to full SERP simulators, redirect checkers to content optimizers. I’ve installed, tested, deleted, and reinstalled them all. Some of these extensions have lived on my browser for years. Others didn’t survive the week.
The truth? SEO Chrome extensions are underrated. They won’t replace your full SEO stack, but when you’re working fast — writing, researching, optimizing — having the right data in your browser is a win.
No fluff. No gimmicks. Just tools that work.

1. Answer Socrates Chrome Extension – Best for Keyword Research
Every Google search you run is keyword research.
The Answer Socrates extension appears in three places.
- 1. A sidebar next to your results showing the questions people ask about whatever you searched.

- 2. A 12-month Trends chart. It fills on every single search.

- 3. Then there’s the part nothing else here does. It runs inside ChatGPT and Claude. Chat about any topic and a slim bar appears with live Google data: a 12-month trend line, real autocomplete queries, and the hidden query fan-out, meaning the exact searches the AI ran when it went to the web.

Most keyword extensions meter you. Every keyword shown burns a credit, so one search with a related-keywords widget can cost 20 or 30 before you’ve clicked a result. This one shows Questions, Prepositions, Comparisons, Related and Hidden tabs on every search, free, and only spends a credit when you ask for a full scan or if you want keyword search volume.
Tick any keyword to save it. The collection follows you across searches, so you can research a topic all afternoon and export the lot to CSV in one click, or open the full report on Answer Socrates.
What You’ll Love:
- Questions, hidden keywords
- Trends on every search
- Free with no credit burn per search
- Collection saves across searches, exports to CSV
- Runs inside ChatGPT and Claude
- No account or card to install
Drawbacks:
- Google data only, no Amazon or Etsy
- Full scan and SEO metrics need credits
Perfect For:
- Anyone whose browsing is their research
- Writers planning content from real questions
- SEOs working inside ChatGPT and Claude
Free, with no sign-up. A paid Answer Socrates plan from $15/month links the extension to your account and adds search volume, CPC and competition to the sidebar.
Find it on the Google Chrome store and more info on the SEO extension here.
2. Keywords Everywhere – Best for Search Volume
Keywords Everywhere is the extension most SEOs tried first, and a million of them still have it installed.
The pitch is simple: search volume, CPC and competition wherever you already are. Not just Google. YouTube, Instagram, Amazon, Bing, eBay and Etsy get the same treatment, which makes it the default pick if your work spans marketplaces as well as search. Trend data goes back to 2004.
It’s grown past the sidebar too. There are 200+ AI prompt templates that drop into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and DeepSeek, an MCP server so your AI assistant can pull live keyword data directly, and metrics showing which of your searches now trigger a Google AI Overview.
The thing to understand before you install it is the credit model. One credit buys the data for one keyword, and the extension spends credits on everything it displays, not just the term you typed. Their own docs give the example: a search showing 8 related keywords and 20 people-also-search-for terms costs 29 credits. Bronze gives you 100,000 a year, which sounds enormous until you do that arithmetic. Credits expire after twelve months.
The free version works without an API key, but it’s the lighter but still powerful half: prompt templates, traffic and backlink data, the hashtag generator, and social engagement metrics. Search volume needs a paid plan.
What You’ll Love:
- Volume and CPC on 15+ platforms
- 200+ AI prompt templates, free
- MCP server for live data in AI tools
- Historical trend data back to 2004
Drawbacks:
- Volume data needs a paid plan
- Credits burn fast on widget-heavy searches
- Annual billing only, no monthly option
Perfect For:
- Anyone researching Amazon or YouTube as well as Google
- Marketers who want numbers over question lists
- Teams that need seats, which Silver and above include
Annual billing only. Bronze $84/year (about $7/month) for 100,000 credits and 1 seat, Silver $168/year for 400,000 credits and 3 seats, Gold $480/year for 2 million, Platinum $1,440/year for 8 million.
Worth knowing: Silver also includes SEO Minion, which is further down this list.
